Made a recent project easier than I expected.

My use for them is unusual, but most of what I've experienced applies to other uses as well. I installed small video cameras under the train model to be able to see hidden parking trains. Camcorders work fine in low light, but color and detail are lost. So I installed these little spotlights behind the cameras to light up the trains. Double-sided tape makes it easy to install fixtures. I added a screw to each light in case the glue rubbed off; Without glue it would be difficult to insert the screws. At first I was concerned that the length of the power cord going to each bulb was too short, but in the end they turned out to be perfect. I managed to install the hub in the middle (up to 6 lamps can be connected to the hub). I managed to open the infrared sensor and can point the remote at it with no problem. I've read reviews confusing the remote with TV remotes. In my setup I don't have any remotes that cause these kinds of problems. You can remove the remote control and just turn it on and off when you want. The remote control has good functions, but it's more complicated than I need. I've found it useful for shadow box lighting, watch collection, etc. You can buy extensions if you need them but for me the length was perfect. The light output is good and the beam angle is good for my purposes. Maybe they could be a little more "spotlight" than "spotlight", but when you're lighting small collectibles you want a narrow beam. I was able to solve my problem by buying 2 more headlights to add to the output hub. Anything negative about them? Well, if you don't want to be picky, the ball-and-socket mechanism, which lets you specify a point and what you want to light, works well when the surface to light is usually parallel to the surface on where the lights are . This could be a wall opposite or on the ceiling far enough away from the subject to provide a 45 degree or maybe a 30 degree angle, for example. If you make it smaller, you'll likely pull the base of the light fixture out of the mount. They're plastic/rubber so you just stick them back in, but that means you'll have a hard time lighting anything from the side. Considering the price and quality this is a nitpick but it still made me pick at least one less than ideal vantage point for them, but again I placed them in a small hidden spot under a large table. Because of my application, I decided to use "cold white" light. I think they look perfect.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Large and bulky
