They're just poorly designed. I bought banana and flex connectors for a home theater system. These are attractive and well-built units, and the banana version gets full marks. However, these flexible pins just don't work for most applications. The conductive parts of the connectors inevitably connect to each other. Both adjacent speakers and opposite polarity connections can be problematic depending on your receiver or speaker setup. I used some available heat shrink tubing to protect them as shown in the photos, but how many people have them? Electrical tape works but is less attractive and durable. Skip them.
