I bought this and installed it on the side of my outdoor patio overlooking the turtle pond. I was concerned about the cold weather we were having as it forced my turtles into a doze and threatened to kill my koi. With this heater alone, it heats the entire pond surface and even raises the water temperature, making it more comfortable for the fish. Turtles love it! They crawl along the banks of their pond to approach it and bask in its warm light. I like the subtle orange glow at night because it allows me to see the turtles sleeping comfortably next to it and even the fish in the water seem to glow with fluorescent light. These fish and turtles are more active and eating better and I no longer worry about them. This device was exactly what I wanted and it works fantastic. Ease of installation. Unobtrusive. Aesthetics. Functional. i can't win *** To update. The device worked fine for several months, but then it just stopped working. He was used a lot while he was working and he was outside. It can be repaired but with my lack of electrical skills it's junk now.
