I washed before use. I let them air dry for a few days before stuffing them with spices. I am very happy with this purchase. I didn't think I would need all 30 jars, but I definitely did! used on the jar and on the lid. You'll need a chalk marker to set up some of your spice names (it comes with plenty of blank labels too!). Outstanding result! It was an easy project.
