I traded in my Osprey Raptor 14 for this bag which has fewer straps and compartments. It's perfect for urban transport for my Chromebook + charger, and the main compartment easily fits lunch, snacks, and books. Quality is impressive at this price point (much half the price of similar Osprey/Camelbaks). It's not explosion-proof for mountain use, but will last for many years. Just 1 small suggestion - Interior mesh with pockets should hold US passport for easy travel. He's just a little small.
