I originally gave this printer a 5 star rating. Until the yellow cartridge supposedly ran out of ink. Since I use the printer moderately in my business, I wanted something better than the average home machine. It was easy to set up, produced good quality prints, and did exactly what I needed. 90% of my work is black and white. I probably haven't printed more than 50 pages in color since owning the machine, but the yellow cartridge mysteriously ran out of ink when I had to make a report and meet a deadline. I have found that the device absolutely does not work if not all cartridges are filled. You cannot print, fax, or scan pictures in black and white into a program to e-mail or copy them. I had to order more cartridges which of course caused me to miss the deadline, not to mention the HP 950/951 XL ink set will cost you around $120.96. Instead, I ordered a set of "fake" cartridges online for $13.55 and got the printer working after enduring a series of annoying messages from HP support warning me that they still wouldn't guarantee the printer (Warranty has expired). You must change your policy and printer software to allow this opt-out feature to be bypassed. They obviously want to sell you more ink at their outrageously exorbitant prices. I cannot recommend this printer and doubt I will buy other HP printers in the future. I believe HP specifically designed this printer to force you to buy their overpriced cartridges ($140-$160 a set). I will look for another printer.
