I love this sarong! Here's my experience of how it helps determine the size. I'm 5'3 and 130 lbs. My fat spots are my hips and thighs. I ordered small/medium first and it was cute but left a few inches of my thighs exposed. Then I ordered Large/xlarge and it was PERFECT! Still, it's definitely cute and hugs your hips. I was afraid it would be too big, but it isn't. Increase the size if you want full coverage.
