Review on πŸ”Œ AT&T TL88002 Accessory Cordless Handset: Silver/Black for TL88102 Expandable Phone System by Roosevelt Weaver

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Efficient system albeit without additional options

Our small office recently upgraded an old AT&T phone system (AT&T TL76108 5.8GHz Dual Channel Digital wireless/cordless phone systems). Answering machine (titanium and metallic carbon) for this newer model (TL88102) We also ordered 4 additional phones (TL88002) My pros and cons rating is based on comparison to older AT&T systems PROS: Very clear sound quality and excellent range with DECT 6.0 technology Slim and light design, the phone feels more like a "beam" than a "brick" in your hand Also, there is no stupid antenna At first glance the phone looks like if it couldn't stand by itself, but it is so can.(Useful for speakerphone speakerphone.) - Allows inserting a "1" in front of a number from the caller ID list. FINALLY we can use the CID protocol to answer calls instead of re-entering the whole number as this skips the "1". Up to 12 handsets are supported (compared to 8 in the old system, although our office never used more than 6). - I like the ability to communicate between handsets, although we would never use it in our small office. - Synchronizing information (date/time, directory) between phones is effortless - change it on one phone and it will be sent to others instantly - has the ability to set a home region code - display and button backlight blue, not the orange of our old phones. EDIT: Contrary to what is stated on this page, the phone system supports 10 short codes from the phone's directory. CONS: - Loses the ability to rename the handset. The old system allowed text entry to give each phone an individual name. We used this to name each phone after the person who typically used the phone in that workplace. It can now only name each handset as "Handset 1", "Phone 2" etc. in the order you register the handsets to the base. The phone sits freely on the base. Every time I put it back into the base I'm not always sure it's sitting there right. It is easy to tip over and pull out of the base. LCD text clarity (on phones) appears to be reduced; Not sure if it's because it's smaller or uses a different font, but it definitely looks more cluttered. The red charging indicator sits between the two function keys below the LCD screen and looks a bit too conspicuous for my taste. . A small thing, but still worth mentioning. - The handset must not be used while it is in the charger. (This is no different from the old system.) If you put it in the base station during a call, it will hang up automatically. The line 1/line 2 icon display above is slightly different and harder to see. EDIT: Some new phone models have a number blocking feature that we could actually use, but unfortunately this model doesn't have it. Summary: Overall I am happy with this purchase. I'd like to see more options in a modern phone system, but that's surprisingly rare to find in a company. We considered switching to VoIP phones but this would be hampered by our somewhat limited bandwidth. This phone system does what it's supposed to do and does it well. This is a significant step up from our legacy phone system.

Pros
  • Batteries should be charged for 16 hours before use for best performance
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
