I bought a Glyph Atom drive for about $400 almost 2 years ago because I needed a fast USB C/Thunderbolt 3 compatible portable drive Testing the drive with Blackmagic Disk The speed test showed speeds in the 300 range, not 500 (I tried both the USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 cable and the longer Thunderbolt 3 cable that I bought separately specifically for this drive) . The drive has always had issues when intermittently disconnected from the laptop, causing my laptop to want it removed without properly ejecting it (it doesn't!). I considered sending the drive in for a warranty replacement about a year ago, but tech support advised me against it as they said the problem was most likely on my side (they said if the laptop went to sleep , the drive turns off, which doesn't make sense to me, but...). Finally, the drive stopped working a few months ago. I could "see" that it was connected to my computer, but when I try to view the contents of the drive or format the drive, it freezes on my computer. Since the drive was now completely unusable, I sent it back under warranty, but I had to pay the shipping costs, which annoyed me. The drive turned out to be defective, so they replaced the internal SSD component and shipped it back to me (at least Glyph paid for the return shipping). However, when I got the drive back, the rubber bumpers on the bottom of the drive were gone. Of course they were removed to access the screws and replace the SSD, but to me it's just super distasteful to return the device to the buyer in this condition - with the screws and glue exposed. I hope the drive works better now. that the SSD was replaced, but I regret having bought an expensive, seemingly high-quality drive that never performed as advertised. While customer service was good, I didn't welcome the suggestion that the problem was on my side (and that they actually convinced me not to seek a replacement under warranty - I should have followed my intuition but I was worried they would be unable to reproduce the issue as it recurred intermittently for the first year and a half). I'm also disappointed that I have to pay for warranty shipping and I'm not impressed with the condition my drive was returned to me in. This was my first experience with Glyph and I will not be buying from them again. Next time I'll look at the bigger brands that I really get to know.
