I have replaced 2 GE GXULQRs in my kitchen sink in the last two years. Last time I had to use a rubber band wrench to remove the old filter. Before installation, I smeared a very small amount of Danco waterproof grease onto the two rubber O-rings on the new filter. No problem. I think the filter is well thought out. I turned off the water supply during installation just in case. Update: I changed the rating to 1 star. We've found that filtered water tastes the same as unfiltered tap water, which means the filter isn't working. I think the water somehow bypasses the charcoal filter in the cartridge. Probably due to a quality defect. The flow of water exiting the filter is strong, which is another sign of internal structural damage. I will not buy a GE filter again. GE has already sold its water business.
