Plenty of room and I would say the bag is a good size from an aesthetic point of view, but I could appreciate that it looks a bit bigger - maybe a more square valve. I'm 50, so young people can appreciate this little moment. I was too lazy to zip it up, but a zipper is a good deterrent to theft that happens when people bump into you. Doesn't look like a laptop is plugged in and that's what I wanted. I tried putting a water bottle in the side pockets and no! They tend to fall straight out, at least when full. Soft, thick cotton straps are not a problem for a knife in my opinion, although I cannot imagine such a confrontation even when traveling in the 3rd world. This gray is closer to a taupe, so the gray doesn't match my boots, nor did I notice that the straps and other details were brown. It's random. Maybe a little too casual for me but I haven't seen anything I liked more and the price is great under $30. Used but in very good condition, discounted.
