Review on StarTech Com SATA USB Cable USB3S2SAT3CB by Daniel Revlon

Saved me from replacing my daughter's (Late 2011) MacBook Pro!

My high school daughter complained that her MacBook Pro (Late 2011) was very slow. She mainly uses it for schoolwork and listening to music, but I've seen her complain about the "spinning beach ball" every time she opens the app or surfs the web. After reading about the success of many people replacing the slow 5400RPM hard drive that came with the Mac with one of the newer SSDs, I decided to upgrade. Here are my steps: 1.) Buy a 500GB Samsung SSD ($80) 2.) Buy this StarTech USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III HDD Adapter 3.) Download SuperDuper! for free on Mac my daughter.4.) Connect your new Samsung SSD to Mac with StarTech cable via USB port.5.) Follow SuperDuper's instructions to clone the original drive.6.) Follow video instructions from YouTube to remove the old drive and install the new SSD drive7.) Reboot your computer - DONE This cable was perfect for cloning a Mac to an SSD BTW I also have their 4GB RAM to 8GB Upgraded RAM (another $54) since I already had the laptop open.Very simple update.THE BEACHBALL NO LONGER SPINS and loads much faster when using an SSD drive. Here are just a few examples of how much faster the Computer with a new SSD responds: BOOT (OLD HD): 2 MINUTES, 15 SEC DEN -> NEW SSD: 47 SECONDS OPEN WORD (OLD HD): 1 MINUTE, 3 SECONDS -> NEW SSD: 5 SECONDS. 6 SECONDS

Pros
  • SATA Cable
Cons
  • No Performance
