Review on πŸŽ’ Kattee Canvas Leather Military Messenger Bag - Fits 14.7/15.6 Inch Laptop - Shoulder Bag by Patrick Mccall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great bag, horrible zipper design

I was very excited when I saw this bag and when I received it I thought it was worth a lot more than the retail price. waited a few days to make sure everything was as good as it seemed. I would love to give this bag a 5 star rating but the large external straps/clasps used are *magnetic* and weak magnets. The clasps that you have to undo every time you take something out of the main body of the bag, both inside and in the two medium-sized front pockets, are weak magnets that you have to apply correctly to fasten them. and they come off if you press the lid too hard. The clasps on the two middle pockets on the front are old school metal clasps as you would expect from a bag like this that won't open unless tugged hard. The zipper in the upper main compartment is just as old-fashioned and very durable. So it's incredibly frustrating that someone would choose to use flimsy magnetic snaps on the main latches, and they open easily with very little pulling or pushing. And it's frustrating that you can't just slide the buttons back into place to fasten like old bag buttons. Every time you open and close this bag you have to move those magnets to make them connect, and half the time I'm grabbing this bag by the top cover and not the strap, the magnet clasps come loose. And I don't even carry a full 15" laptop, only a 13" iPad. So if you really stuff this bag full of books or laptops/gear these magnetic straps will never hold - you always have to grab the strap. Of course, the whole bag has a great look and design, except for one blemish, but this blemish is noticeable several times a day by using this bag all day. And it really doesn't matter if you leave the top lid completely open all the time, because the main storage area and the two middle pockets are well sealed. Too bad the top cover with magnetic closures is mostly cosmetic. Another small issue with this bag is that it has room for at least one larger additional zippered pocket in the main storage area, and also has room for a pocket on top of that useless cosmetic lid with magnetic closures, but those spaces go virtually unused. A small pocket in the internal storage compartment accounts for about 1/6 of the pocket, but has room for the size of the entire pocket or at least the same height as the main storage. With those magnetic snaps attached with either much stronger magnets or real buttons, and a few extra pockets, this bag would easily cost $100-$150. At this $40 price point, it's worth it, but maybe a little disappointing.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Mostly ok but...
