I thought the notches would be good to keep the yarn from falling, but the yarn is difficult to move when you as the notches will pinch the twine making it very difficult and time consuming to remove the twine. I only used them briefly once because they didn't do what I wanted them to. Instead I found some skewers (for kebabs) which I cut and sharpened the ends then sanded to a smooth finish which I like MUCH BETTER! Also cheaper.
