It applies very easily and is said to have a matte finish rather than a gloss finish. After wiping down the seats with a damp microfiber cloth, I placed it on the applicator and rubbed a little with my fingers to keep it out of the perforated leather holes. I got up very easily and didn't go into the perforation. The smell is perfect. It smells like new car leather, very thin, unobtrusive. I was afraid to spoil the smell of new skin with some perfume, but that didn't happen. It has a slight chemical/leather odor and smells very close to new car leather. In fact, as I was putting them on, I was wondering if the manufacturer covered the seats with something similar because the smell is so close. After application I wiped it down with a microfiber cloth per the instructions but there wasn't much to wipe off - it lays down very easily and dries quickly. Upon completion, you realize that there is a very light barrier, but it's thin. This is exactly what I wanted for my new seats, looks like a quality product and I couldn't be happier. I'll let you know how well it handles blue jean color transfer. I don't expect this to prevent this, but I hope it passes easily. As expected, this doesn't prevent it, but it seems to mitigate it. I used a leather cleaner spray and it went away immediately. I can't say if it will ever come out.
