This bread slicer does exactly what it's supposed to and does it very well, especially considering the low price. If you use the right bread knife, the cuts will be straight and even. My only minor issue with this item is that the thinnest cut is a bit thicker than I like (although my wife thinks it's perfect and other much more expensive bread slicers cut the same). I got around this by using a very thin CD/DVD holder as a spacer. All I did was first place the CD case in the bread slicer (whole), place the uncut loaf on the base and slice. If I had to do it again, I would buy the exact same bread slicer in a heartbeat.
