Review on πŸ“· Panasonic DMC-FZ50S 10.1MP Digital Camera - 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) for Stunning Shots! by Amy Cosme

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Super small camera.

Bought this Revain FZ50 camera last week for a great price of 477.00. And added several 1GB memory cards and an extra battery. Everything arrived intact. I've had a Panasonic FZ10 for a few years now and it still works great. The FZ series moved to the FZ20 and FZ30 and when I was thinking about buying a new model the FZ50 had one. The recent price made me jump, partly out of concern that the model might be phased out for the next new thing. Having personally reviewed around 90 digital images with the FZ50, noise just isn't an issue for images taken in daylight at a lower ASA speed (100, maybe 200). You can't expect a small CCD to perform well at higher ASA settings, but I was surprised at how good all the test shots were. The level of detail in images captured at 100 ASA is simply superb. Higher telephotos reveal crisp, incredible detail with no obvious chromatic issues (red, blue, etc. fringing around objects at the edges of the image). This improvement over the FZ10 is due to the Venus III processor, not the lens, in my opinion, but still images are very clean and sharp edge-to-edge at the wide and moderate aperture settings used so far (F3.5 to F5.6). . . The camera is packed with features, but the best feature in my opinion is the focus/exposure lock. The focus/exposure lock has three settings in the menu: 1) focus lock 2) exposure lock 3) focus and exposure lock together Since auto and manual focus work so well, I chose exposure lock. Because the viewfinder is a digital image that reflects the exposure you're trying to capture (with the shutter button half-pressed), exposure lock is very useful when you can determine if an image may be overexposed or underexposed. All you have to do is find a slightly darker or lighter image where you can lock the exposure and very quickly return to the image you want with the adjusted exposure setting. The locked exposure is released when the button is pressed again. Great feature. This isn't the camera to buy if you want to make large, smooth prints, although smaller prints up to 11 x 14 inches should look pretty good. On the contrary, this camera is a unique one-piece tool with a wide-angle and a telephoto lens that can capture close and distant objects in great detail. As an illustrator, this camera is perfect for capturing nuts and bolts for future work - be it rabbits, birds, people, landscapes, etc. The image stabilization (set in the menu to only work when the shutter button is pressed) works very well and A very good lens helps a lot to get the best shot - at least in my opinion after seeing the results of the first tests. I could clearly read the name of our city on a water tower about 3 miles away and was able to take some amazingly clear handheld photos of the moon at full telephoto. Bought this FZ50 for my wife - another one of those bowling balls Homer gave me. Purchases.
