My 12 year old has a scientist in the family, this was perfect to keep him busy this summer. He could use it for much more than described in the description. He has used it with slides, liquids, insects, coins, paper, drops from other experiments and he likes it a lot. He connected to his computer and even made a slide show of his discoveries. It was the best thing he'd ever done to help him catch up on some of the missed experiments of the last year and a half at school. I highly recommend it, my 12 year old was able to set it up on his own with no help.
