My Australian Shep has terrible allergies as well as horrible anxiety. She will scratch and pull chucks of hair out. 2 things seem to trigger it. One, anytime my daughter (her person) is gone over night. Two, grass cutting season. We have done several rounds of steroids (shots and oral) and allergy meds just this season alone, without much help. As soon as the steroids wear off (5-6 wks), she's back to ripping her hair out. Doctor wanted us to do an allergy test that costs $550. I love her dearly but we had just shelled out $2k in vet bills due to this just this year alone and its only been 6 months into the year.
