ZIO Dazzler reader not reading and no

The ZIO Dassler DM-23300 USB 2.0 Portable SD/MMC Card Reader is easily recognized by Windows XP as a "removable disk". The downside, at least with the product I've just received, is that inserting a downloaded secure digital card that can be read by other devices simply won't register in the device, even if the instructions have been carefully followed. The Zio Corp Technical Support link shows a blank screen.
