Conclusion Ahead: If you want to move your system (e.g. to the basement) you can do it but you lose some pressure I Tired of the cupboard under the kitchen sink filled with a reverse osmosis system. I bought two ice machines and installed a filtration system in the basement. The additional length of pipe added about 40 feet total (20 feet in each direction) and the added piping resulted in a slight pressure drop in the reverse osmosis faucet on the sink. Filling water bottles takes about twice as long as I expected given the extra line. I fitted two shut-off valves to match the system (mains water inlet and fresh water outlet - see picture) so the water can be easily shut off when it's time to change the filters. Now I can just access the system and disable everything when I need to change the filter. When I moved I found that the black drain hose was too short (because I cut it to fit under the sink). I contacted iSpring and Don Huey helped me replace the hose. This is the second home I have installed an iSpring system. We love our system. where I placed the filter system. I had to use a drill bit about 1 foot long and 3/4 inch diameter to go all the way through the cabinet and sub floor. The basement is unfinished so I had access to both rooms. After drilling the hole, I straightened a metal hanger (the kind you get from dry cleaners) and attached two lines to one end of the hanger. I pushed the other end of the hanger into the hole and my son grabbed the hanger and pulled it down until he could see the pipes. I then switched places with my son and at the same time pulled both tubes down until they were where I attached the system to the stud wall. My son held on to the other two ends of the two lines to make sure I didn't put them through the hole in the basement. which would be returned by dragging each row individually. I used a permanent marker to mark both lines so I know which is supply and which is return.
