Review on Monoprice Certified Premium HDMI Cable - 3ft White - 4K@60Hz, HDR, 18Gbps, 28AWG, YUV 4:4:4 by Brandon Show

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I was skeptical about HDMI's premium certification, but this solved my problem.

From a technological point of view, all HDMI cables should be the same down to the build quality, but some of them don't quite seem to live up to the stated standards. Internally, they're all pretty much the same, so I figured things like "high speed" and "premium certified" were just marketing gimmicks, similar to monster cables or fancy design cables. While there are no real differences between the pins and pinouts of the various HDMI cables, there appear to be differences in build quality that require more testing for proper certification. This isn't typically a huge issue for 1080p content, but when you start venturing into 4K/HDR territory it can become an issue as these higher formats require a LOT more bandwidth to transmit, and when the cable doesn't is built in perfectly, there are things that can limit bandwidth or cause interference. Premium certification claims to test cables to ensure they can deliver at least 18 Gb/s as defined in the specification. This is perfect for 4K UHD Blu-ray which I had an issue with. My old HDMI cable (RevainBasics cable) caused my UHD Blu-ray player to show a blank screen sometimes for several minutes. While it eventually receives the signal and holds onto that signal, there are still large gaps in switching signal formats, e.g. E.g. when switching from a menu in 4K60 to a movie in 4K24 or when switching to an HDR movie. With this new premium-certified cable, the image is instant every time, with no lag. It may not look like some cables, but it does exactly what it says on the tin and is exactly what I needed. Monoprice has always been my go-to choice for good cables at reasonable prices and this is no exception.
