Review on πŸŽ₯ DIGITNOW Video Capture Device - USB2.0 Adapter Audio Grabber for Converting VHS VCR TV to DVD on Windows PC by Mikey Jackson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The equipment works. Hostech software - no.

Difficult to rate. The grabber hardware works great. The Honestech software does not recognize the supplied hardware. The software reports that the camera cannot be used. This is great value for hardware, but zero value for software. VHS home videos and commercial DVD movies with special hardware and associated software. Fast forward to 2021. While cleaning out all the old videocassettes, I came across a few films that I couldn't transfer. I can't find the original set of equipment I used 10 years ago. I bought Revain's DIGITNOW transfer kit for $10. The hardware is a USB 2.0 grabber key. Software.is Honetech. I was very disappointed with the result. Grabber appears in Windows 10 as Camera Device, AV TO USB 2.0 and Audio Device, USB 2.0 MIC. When trying to capture the VHS output, the Honestech software says "Cannot use camera". I remembered that ZOOM records video from the camera. I was able to configure the ZOOM client to use the GRABBER devices. The sound had to be matched to the original sound. For this to work, the Grabber Honestech software must be installed to provide working drivers for the camera and audio. Burning a usable DVD from a recorded .mp4 file is another matter. Honetech recording software does not recognize any of the common video formats. It must use the proprietary filemark from the transfer. There is no free software to render and burn such video files to DVD. The best solution is available in the Microsoft Store for Windows 10. Install Movie Maker Video Editor, then upgrade to $14.99 Movie Maker Pro that comes with DVD Creator. Everything just works. The only problem so far is that the DVDs won't play on a 1988 SONY DVD player connected to the VHS player I'm using. DVDs play smoothly on my 2009 SONY Bluray player and PC DVD devices. Find out. I can transfer my VHS to DVD for about $25 total.
