Review on Panasonic Ultra Compact Camcorder Discontinued Manufacturer by David Bott

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very satisfied!: Video

I bought this product after much research and it was a bit risky. Finally, there isn't much information on it as it seemed like it was only a year old and it wasn't an expensive camera at the time, but a somewhat inexpensive 1ccd video camera. my expectations. First, the hissing of the tape bothered me. I had a Sharp DV camcorder and the tape hiss on the recordings was annoying. I almost bought a new Elura 100 or a new Optura 50 but was put off by reviews saying their tape hiss was something "to be expected from any DV camera". Well, this Panasonic has no tape hiss. Second, I was concerned about the lighting in the room. I mainly use my camcorder for indoor shots: family gatherings around the dinner table or family shots indoors, and I also shoot in the ballroom dance studio during class with the lights off. I rate the indoor performance EXCELLENT. I have no complaints about indoor family photography. In fact, the camera has a handy button next to the LCD that says 'Backlight' (no icon!) and pressing it increases the gain (I think), which comes in handy in the studio when the artist is leaving. in front of the windows and illuminate them completely. So I'm wondering why all the talk about interior lighting on 1CCD cameras - are people talking about shooting a scene lit by just a 160 watt bulb? In such cases I would expect granularity. Third, I was concerned that camera technology would be surpassed in the last two years of video camera development. I don't understand how. When I tested the newer Panasonic and Canon models at a local store, I didn't notice any difference, other than that the newer models seemed a little more grainy and less intuitive in the user interface. The only thing I sacrificed by buying this camcorder over a newer one was the widescreen recording. What I did get, however, was an analog/digital pass-through (and I was amazed at how many times I've used it to record old videotapes to my computer via my camcorder - works great, and the way to do it is following). Simply remove the strap and leave it connected to your computer while you connect your VCR and microphone hot shoe. For me it's worth it since I actually use them. Also, the camcorder is as compact as the newer models and I like the way it fits in my hand. Battery life is mediocre: the standard battery lasts around 50 minutes. However, the extended battery available here at Revain from a variety of manufacturers at a very reasonable price lasts several hours so for a very modest additional cost this problem was solved for me. cam. Just the opposite. Whether it's connected with a USB cable OR with a FireWire cable, it shows up instantly (no discs) in WinXP as a DV camera and you can see yourself instantly on screen and even live in Windows MovieMaker or from the camera record in Messenger. For Skype initially it didn't work as a webcam and I had to download a free utility called SplitCam and then it worked fine on Skype.
