Review on NIST Traceable Calibration Certificate for Starrett Stainless Steel by Amy Cook

I have various Starrett tools, micrometers and digitally controlled and graduated calipers. All high quality American tools. It's not like this. It is made in China and looks almost identical to other Chinese made tools sold for a lot less money. It has nothing to do with my US made Starrett tools, including my personal set of Starrett digital calipers. Anyone who's ever owned a movement caliper knows you keep it in a storage case to carry with you. With my old Starrett or Mitotuyo calipers, I can put them in a case and carry them in my pocket. Not with that. The case is not a storage case, but a display case, like cheap jewelry. There is 15mm of clearance in the clear bell cap, enough room for the calipers to rattle and scratch the styrene. Every time I close the box I have to put bubble wrap in the lid to keep them from falling out. Whoever designed this housing never owned a caliper. The first set I bought arrived with a broken case in sealed packaging so I had to send it back and get a new one. I wish I had taken out the calipers first and looked at them so I could send them back and buy Mitutoyo. Less money, better tools. I love quality instruments but will never buy a Starrett again. I could go to Harbor Freight or Radio Shack and buy an equally cheap instrument for a lot less money. I am very thankful that I bought it for work and not at home. You literally pay $90 for a name here. This is a $30 caliper that sells for $120. If you can find an old American-made Starrett, I'll buy it anyway. If you are thinking of buying this tool I would highly recommend Mitutoyo. I wish I had bought it instead.
