Cheaper than a custom made mouthguard
I've been using this mouthguard for years and find it works great in the short term. The only downside is severe bruxism. I got flat teeth from using a lot of plastic OTC tooth shields. While it's cheaper than the custom braces you could have at the dentist's office, just consider that after a few purchases, you'd be paying the dentist. Also, if you have a severe temporomandibular joint and like me grind and clench your teeth, you're probably better off using a special dental tray. They should really only be used short-term for a few months. If the problem persists, please consult your doctor or dentist to choose the best option :)
