I have used this device as a teaching tool in countless classes and lectures. In math and science classes, information can come to you pretty quickly. You write frantically to rewrite all the important proofs and lemmas the professor put forward, only to find you can't remember the context. Enter the recorder: you fast-forward to the part you wrote about, compare your notes to the professor's remarks, and BOOM! Instant Clarity. This device is tiny, discreet, easy to use and is EXTREMELY good at picking up voices while minimizing other noise. The battery life is impressive, especially for a device that runs on two AAA batteries. Copying files to a computer is very simple: connect it with a USB cable and here are the files in .WMA format. This is a 4 star rating. How do I edit a .WMA file on a Mac? You know. "But look," you might object. "I forgot to turn off the recorder and confessed to ten crimes, proving that P=NP! Is it possible to split them into separate tracks? The answer, if you're using a Mac and don't have access to Windows, is no. NO. And I don't mean nitric oxide. You can get around this by booting Windows into Boot Camp, converting the file to .mp3 using iTunes for Windows, and then doing whatever you want in your software of choice. But frankly, it's very annoying. So why buy? "Sure," you think, "my smartphone is good enough." Well, I wouldn't count on that. Your smartphone's battery life stinks. Promise. As well as its ability to differentiate between the sounds you want and the sounds you don't hear on the recording. This jerk, on the other hand, rocks and drives both. So if you're serious about getting a good sound of what's going on around you, I recommend you pick one of these. And with a PC, or a lot of patience.
