Cute but scratchy top

My son loves Harry Potter stuff and was so happy to get this pajama set! However, when they sewed the stitches, the type of thread they were made of was very prickly - as he put them on, he left the room and plucked some of the embroidery from his skin. Otherwise he loves this outfit! I just need a simple way to protect his skin from this otherwise very soft material.
