Review on πŸ”Š Adam T7V Black Hollow Speaker System by Riko Mizuseki ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Everything about the product satisfied me, the price is perfect.

The overall impression of the monitors is very good. I will say right away that if you have never had monitors and you are looking for the first ones, take it boldly, you will not lose. You don't need to think. This is a very good option, because I have something to compare with. I have experience with KRK RP5 and ADAM A7X and I can say that T7V is more A7X than KRK. The sound of the monitors is not magical, but quite clear and of high quality. They perfectly convey the volume, the sound plans are clearly audible on all branded records. For interest, I compared it with the Pioneer music center, the sound of which seemed good to me, and realized that the difference was about the same as between the old "ten" and the new Volkswagen Golf. Despite the fact that the monitors are placed in an acoustically unprepared room (square room 16 sq. m.), I did not notice any problems such as a "buzzing" bottom, on the contrary, the bass is very clear, specific and collected. However, it should be borne in mind that these are monitors from those from which one should not expect some kind of magical bass response. The only thing I didn't really like about the sound was some kind of "dirt" at mid frequencies in the region of 1-2 kHz, which is audible even on branded recordings. I do not exclude and am even sure that this problem is caused by the imperfection of the acoustics of the room. I also listened to these monitors in a studio with acoustic trim and did not notice such a problem there. Summing up, I will say that monitors need the right acoustics and the right placement. Do not spare money and time for this, and also do not spare money for racks - an extremely convenient thing. For a home studio (and even more so as a first monitor), the ADAM T7V is an excellent choice, definitely better than the KRK RP5 and their counterparts. But for the budget level of a professional studio, they are also worth paying attention to as an inexpensive alternative to the A7X.

Pros
  • Perhaps, the advantage of monitors is one, but it covers all the existing shortcomings. And it's value for money. I ordered monitors from Germany, they cost me, together with delivery and racks, only 28,000. You won't get anything better for this money. At least not used.
Cons
  • Of course, monitors have drawbacks, although even considering each of them, I would not change my decision to buy now. 1. Bass reflex ports are on the back, so placing monitors near a wall is not recommended. But I would call this shortcoming the least significant. The monitors stand 40 cm from the untreated wall, and I don’t notice any special sound problems from this. 2. It's too bad that there is no jack connector, but only XLR and RCA. I had to change cords. 3. Volume controls are not fixed at 0 dB. It seems to be a trifle, but a little inconvenient. 4. With a balanced connection, monitors sound much quieter. I did not notice a difference in sound quality with a balanced and unbalanced connection, but the difference in volume is very significant. It would be possible not to take a steam bath and leave the connection with "tulips", but the terrible noise that they made forced me to switch to XLR. However, the problem is solved by adding volume on the monitors themselves. 5. Well, one more not very significant, but still a drawback: all control and indication is on the rear panel. That is, looking at the monitor from the front, you can’t even understand whether it is on or not - the lights are on only at the back. There are also volume controls, there are also on / off buttons.
