Orico did not do enough testing before releasing this product to the general public. For more than a week I tested the hub: first with keyboard and mouse, with no obvious problems - the next step was connecting a printer with similar results, with no obvious problems. - Switch to connect two different USB 3.1 external hard drives, one of which is also an Orico product, which only performs read operations and without any obvious problems. - Next step, connect Orico, dual drive to hub and was able to read random files/folders on both drives. At this point, everything seemed fine with the hub, so we ran a virus scan on the two-drive Orico device that was still connected to the USB hub. Both hard drives are 2GB, so the complete process must have taken a long time. As the virus checker was about to finish scanning the second hard drive, the PC started reporting drive errors, so I stopped the application. As a result, both disks had errors. Fixed some bugs on the first hard drive. On the second hard drive, 95% of the data could not be recovered. This happens after using two different complex applications that perform complex block-level searches to find and assemble deleted, missing or corrupted files. Suffice to say I am returning the hub and it is unlikely I will continue to use an Orico device in the future. All data on hard drives are backed up and some of them were saved only in one place so now they are irretrievably lost. After this incident, the connection to the keyboard and mouse was intermittently lost and reset. In addition, there is a long delay in detecting a device from time to time when the PC boots up. I strongly recommend not using this hub for storage devices. Lessons Learned - Don't use Orico gear. - Only use USB hubs for devices that do not access or store data. - Connect all storage devices directly to your computer. - Do not trust "just released" products with valuable data or hardware. - Consider making multiple backups of important data. Interesting, yes the hub has been used on more than one PC and has shown connection issues with the keyboard and mouse.
