These plates are a good size and have a classic, practical design. For money it would be difficult for you to do better. They appear white but are glazed pottery and are generally not entirely white but very light grey. You won't notice unless you put them next to something very bright white so it won't be a problem on your desk. They have the expected weight for glazed pottery and stack well. I don't yet know how badly they get scratched or how easily the edges chip, which is a problem with clear glassware. The dishwasher is not a problem. All in all a good choice for a basic cymbal set.
