HDMI adapter not working

Bought for my MacBook. All of the ports I tested (VGA, USB-A, USB-C, etc.) worked well, with the exception of HDMI. I sent it back and bought another one - same problem. I tested it on three different monitors and two different networks with the same results. All three HDMI monitors had the problem. One blinked rapidly, another blinked every few seconds, the third was just dark. When I switched to VGA, the monitors worked fine. Unfortunately, the main port I needed was HDMI. That would be a good adapter if it worked.
