I bought these to attach my kayaks to a trailer and deter thieves. While I know nothing is 100% efficient, these cables are very thick and very strong. So far they have coped well with the rain and heat in Florida. I have 3 of these locks so far and it's really nice that when you buy them in a pack they come with the same keys. This is very convenient, so you don't have to have keys for every lock, just one for all. As you can see in the photo I route the cable through the scupper hole and around the trailer part.
