This is a very good IPS monitor, but it's not as good as it could be. Because the 2209WA monitor uses IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology instead of today's common TN (Twisted Nematic) technology, the 2209WA doesn't have the color shift and limited viewing angle issues common to much cheaper TN monitors. While the 16:10 aspect ratio is excellent, it gives you about an inch more height and about 10% more screen real estate than a 22-inch 16:9 aspect ratio screen. It has a resolution of only 1680 x 1050, which means a dot pitch of 0.282mm. Comparable monitors such as Dell's own 22-inch U2211H monitor have a higher "HD" resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 0.247mm dot pitch. So it's not as sharp as other new monitors on the market. It also means that HD movies and videos are cut off on both sides or you have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Another downside is that the color gamut is only 82%, which means it can't reproduce all the colors that a given photo or video might have. This makes it unsuitable for professional photo, video or graphics work. That's very bad because it could be a great monitor if it had higher resolution and more color space support. However, this is a pretty good monitor for the average user. Especially if you can get it at a good price.
