Did flat gravel roads (C&O Canal and False Cape State Park) last year with 32mm tires. Decided that something thicker would offer more bump absorption and float more in muddy areas. Didn't want cool spikes! I found this to be the perfect C&O Canal tire. Mostly on a rainy ride, the non-aggressive profile kicked road dirt mostly onto my Trek 820's big Velo Orange fenders, leaving little on my panniers and nothing on my handlebar bag. There was some dirt on the seat and chainstays that used to accumulate with the cleats. The ride was as expected: smooth. Well, relatively smooth. Certainly much softer than 32mm! The only downside is that more rubber = more weight on the bike. Accelerating uphill isn't that much fun! Luckily, the C&O climbs only 600 feet for 184 miles, making the "hills" at each lock easy to climb. It still leaves sluggishness when starting and stopping the wheels, but with full suitcases it's not very noticeable. Excellent tyres.
