Review on πŸŽ₯ Steadicam Curve-BK Handheld Video Stabilizer and Grip for GoPro Hero Cameras 3, 4 Black & Hero 5 (Blue): Ultimate Stability for Action-Packed Filming by Marcus Dortch

Instead I use a 3-axis gimbal

Of course I didn't spend much time getting this to work with my Hero 5. I've seen that an additional weight accessory is needed to cover the rear disc, but thought I'd give it a try without. I couldn't balance it properly, it rocked slightly which resulted in more shaking than just holding the Hero 5 with image stabilization active. I ended up sending it back and getting a gimbal instead. I've done a lot of research on gimbals and don't think any of them currently fit the Hero 5 as it weighs significantly more than the Hero 4. The motors are constantly running trying to hold the heavier Hero 5 level which adds noise the audio track. Many users are trying to figure out how to mount it etc. It will probably take companies 6-12 months to design a gimbal specifically for the Hero 5 instead of just trying to modify the Hero 4's gimbal.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
