I have been using the Ubiquiti network for many years. I've always used a different camera and camera app. Ubiquiti released cameras years ago so I decided to try them out. First my night vision sensor broke on 2 cameras and RMA both times. Early versions also didn't work with POE+ switches. I had to switch to passive 24V. Eventually they figured it out and released new cameras like this one. I thought okay, maybe now is the time to switch to Ubiquiti cameras and the Unifi Protect app for recording and viewing cameras. But unfortunately I don't think it's ready for the mainstream. The cameras are good. I have no problems with cameras. They are durable, easy to install and deliver clear picture and sound. The problem is with the Unifi security software and support. The software cannot maintain a good connection and it happens on the local network, not even remotely. If you want to see cameras all the time, don't go the Unifi security route. Constant disconnects and reconnects. Streams are not loading. A recent update causes a memory leak in the browser and the system becomes slower until you close and reopen the browser. It's a complete mess. I have used other software before and have never had such problems. I am currently using my old software with RTSP streams to view my cameras remotely or locally JUST so I don't have to deal with the Unifi security software. This is in addition to the unifi Protect software. I still use it for recording. But the frustration of ONLY having to use another company's software so I can have a clean browsing session is growing. And there is support. They really try, I give them credit. But I think the problem is that they're growing fast and they can't handle the support they need. So they just brush the problems aside and get on with the work with no real solution. Conclusion: The cameras are solidly built, and the picture and sound are good. The software is still a complete mess. If you're considering switching and need a reliable connection to watch, don't switch just yet. Wait until they actually fix the software issues.
