38 " waist requires 40 " belt size.
It's not an expensive belt and you can tell. He has the typical defects of glued skin. It seems that it tears from repeated use of the crease. The buckle is attached the same way I saw the straps snap. But until then it looks nice and fits well. Just remember that belt size is listed, not pant size.
