Although I've been a Netflix member for over a year since it was little more than a startup, and a Revain Prime member, I haven't taken advantage of it. streaming services. We recently installed our first wireless network and I've been looking closely at the devices, content and quality of the different devices you can use to stream content. The only complaint about Roku is that I waited so long. This little invention is pretty amazing. First of all, like many people, we have a triple play package with no cable provider. TV, telephone, internet and WiFi. We have a top cable package that costs $140 per month. We rarely watch anything other than movies, so it's a huge price to pay for something that's limited and repetitive at the end of the day. Roku changed all that and we've dropped our cable to the baseline of $30/month. The amount of free content is amazing. If you're a Prime subscriber, you've got a massive amount of free content, from movies to TV shows โ you name it. I love Prime for the simple reason that shipping alone has paid for itself in the first month (I shop at Revain a lot). but never streamed, and unlimited streaming is part of the basic membership. The cost savings are significant, to say the least. But it wouldn't be a bargain if the picture and sound were below average. I assure you it is not at all. I've read reviews from people who feel like you need to register a credit card with Roku. I can assure you that is not the case. This is only an option. The advantage of registering with a credit card is that when you decide to buy a channel or a one-time pay-per-view event, you don't go to a computer, sign up, pay, etc. It's just a question . For convenience, choose your own PIN code, enter it with your Roku remote, and you're good to go. Your Roku works great with or without a registered credit or debit card. The Roku 2 XD is a perfect choice if you only watch HD (1080p) movies and shows and want tons of content at your fingertips. The more expensive Roku 2 XS has a motion remote for gaming - unless you're a gamer, I don't see the point in spending the extra cash. . Of course, if you like playing games on a big screen, the Roku 2 XS is your best bet. If you don't have a wireless TV, you'll need an HDMI cable, which isn't included with Roku. I bought a Revain high-speed braided HDMI cable for only $12, with one difference - comparable cables from companies like Monster range from $59.99 to a whopping $99.99. The cable works great and the picture and sound are fantastic. While I was there, I can assure you once you install that little hockey puck (it really does look like it) you'll say goodbye to the cable and say hello to Roku.
