We have hardwood in our living room and kitchen so I bought 8 of these pads (6 to cover the carpet in our living room plus 2 extras) when my youngest pup was homeschooling. It took several months. to teach him how to ring the bell by our back door if he needs to get out, but the pee pads did the job of catching accidents while he learned. I decided NOT to teach him that they could be used as they were too similar to our rug and I was afraid he might not understand the difference. And I washed them as soon as I noticed they were dirty so he wouldn't identify them as a place to go. They are easy to clean and still look good after many washes.
