I work from home and deal with large datasets every day, hence was 100 MB/s over a standard gigabit connection has always been less than desirable. 10Gbe adapters are still very expensive, so this is the perfect temporary solution. For about $30 I get consistent (large files) transfer speeds of about 280MB/s. Yes, it's not exactly 2.5 Gbps, but about what you'd expect. You won't get exactly 125MB/s over Gigabit Ethernet either. Here's my setup: - TrueNAS server with disk-based NVMe and RAID5 storage pools - Netgear MS510TX switch with 10G, 5G, 2.5G ports and standard -Gigabit ports - TrueNAS for switch connection: 10Gbps via cable DAC - Computer to port 2.5G to the switch with this USB adapter and Cat6 cable. This thing is very compact and lightweight, no bigger than the gigabit ethernet USB adapter I have. It comes with a USB-C to standard USB-A adapter so it will work on almost any computer. I use this on my work computer (provided by the company) so installing anything on it is limited. When I first plugged it in, it showed up as a USB drive (no network interface) with some driver files. But my work computer wouldn't allow me to install it, so I contacted my company's IT support to have them install the drivers. While waiting for a response from the IT department, I just left it on for the rest of the day until I turned it off. The next day I ran it and it kind of worked. I have no idea if the computer (running Windows 10 Enterprise) downloaded the drivers itself over the internet or not, but it worked without me or IT pros installing the drivers. On my personal Mac with Big Sur, I had to download the driver files, but everything was easy and worked without any issues.
