Great help during our 3 week trip to Spain/Portugal

Bought this map for our Garmin 1350LMT for our 3 week trip last month. We also used Michelin maps. We were in Madrid/Toledo (walking only until the day we left Madrid in a rental car from MAD to begin our driving portion of our trip). We drove to Segovia (stopping at all the usual tourist attractions nearby such as La Granja, El Escorial), Cordoba, Seville, Faro, Tavira, Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz, Tarifa, Gibraltar, Marbella, Ronda, Granada, back to Madrid pick up our children from their Spanish immersion program and fly to Porto from there. We then drove from Porto to Nazare, Fatima, Alcobaça, Obidos, Cascais, Sintra and Lisbon. The combination of card on card and paper cards worked very well for us. There were only 3 times we can remember the map letting us down: 1) between Tarifa and Gibraltar - it sent us to an exit that didn't exist (and we had to drive at least 5km or more drive to reverse use our paper map to find the exit you need) which we believe is due to the construction of new motorways so the exits there must have been relocated; 2) Tavira in Faro - instead of going to the historical center of Faro, we were sent to a small town near Faro (but maybe the address of this small museum we were looking for is wrong); 3) Seville Historical Center in car mode - this didn't help us to navigate well in our rental car as all the small alleys we think became pedestrian alleys in early 2011 and so we ended up in an alley in which we couldn't go any further due to tables/chairs blocking our way (but it worked in pedestrian mode). Upon arrival in most of these cities we used our GPS in walking mode (sometimes along with various maps from our hotel or in our guide book) and this probably saved us many walking steps in the wrong direction. For us, both this map card and the paper maps were well spent as our vacation time never seems long enough to spend more time than necessary figuring out how to get where we want to go.

Pros
  • Includes detailed maps of Spain, Andorra, Portugal and Gibraltar
Cons
  • sad package
