As a huge fan of the MB42X speakers I couldn't help but buy myself a set. I bought two and use them as left and right networks on my stereo. I got them earlier this week and let them play for several hours a day to break them in. And they didn't disappoint me! They're remarkably smooth and well balanced for such an inexpensive speaker. They sound just like the MB42X but with a better base. No lower base, but the two woofers seem to make the bass response more pronounced. Bass response is pretty impressive for a 4 inch woofer. I use them with a subwoofer, but even without it the bass is very rich and punchy. I tested them in a room where I typically use speakers with 6.5" woofers. and they almost match the bass performance of large speakers. It looks like the tweeters are the same as the MB42X, which is a good thing. They're bright for silk dome tweeters, but never too bright. Just the right amount of spark to make the highs feel so good. Her singing is very natural. Although I use them as a stereo; I have no doubt that they will work well as a center speaker. And the extended bass response will likely allow them to outperform many larger speakers. For Home Theater Using them in the centre, left and right with the MB42X in the rear and the subwoofer will completely rock a small to medium sized room. They're knocking on the door of the entry-level audiophile, but at great prices. I have 3 sets of MB42X and they all hold up well to frequent use; so I assume they will last a long time. Incredible speakers for the price and very good speakers at almost any price point. I recommend them with confidence, enjoy listening! Update - I've been playing them for about a month now. Like their younger siblings, these speakers need a lot of pumping. And I mean seriously, LOTS of extra money. To be honest I've never seen speakers crank up that slowly and I think that's why some people don't rate them as highly as they probably should. Those who rely on out-of-the-box sound fail to appreciate the potential of these speakers. . The "hollow" sound that some complain about with the MB42X largely goes away after playing with it for a while. I'm talking about 30-40+ hours of playtime; These speakers relax very slowly. But if they do. The bass these things produce defies the laws of physics. Wonderful! Not quite audiophile level, but pretty close. A few blemishes on the response graph are all that keep them from the level of $500 speakers. And to be honest, most people won't even notice very small errors. What really matters is that they sound good, and they do! Crazy deal at this price!
