Review on Conair GS23N Extreme Steam Hand Held Fabric Steamer: Powerful Dual Heat Technology for Wrinkle-Free Fabrics, White/Blue by Buddy Colbert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This steamer is the best! Almost replaces my iron. UPDATE: AUGUST 25, 2015 No longer works - fixed with photos!

This steamer gets high ratings from my friends and I - hands down over other steamers we've tried. It is more portable than many other vapers as it is a bit smaller. But he does his job very well. Ideal for removing the last creases from clothing before a formal occasion or to work. I almost never use my iron anymore. ____________________ Update: August 25, 2015 After less than a year of indiscriminate use, my steamer stopped working as everyone says in their reviews. I decided to fix it with a fix. as detailed in Louis E.'s very helpful Revain product review. Thank you Louis E! I was able to get it up and running again in less than ten minutes as if it were brand new. I was a little hesitant to take it apart and fix it as per Louis E's instructions. I know I would be much more confident and less hesitant to fix it if I had photos of the repair. So I've posted some pictures here and hope they help others in a similar situation... but first DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. WHAT IS SUITABLE FOR ME MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR YOU. MAYBE YOU CAN FIX YOUR PROBLEMS WITHOUT SPREADING IT LIKE ME, BUT MY DEVICE WAS FIXED ONLY AFTER I DID THAT. THIS MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY.1. Remove the top panel marked "CONAIR". I was able to quickly remove it with a flat head screwdriver by going around the edges of the panel and unclipping all the clips holding the panel to the main unit.2. With the top cover removed you should see 4 visible screws. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen them.3. After the screws are removed, you can detach the white plate from the blue plate that says "WARNING: HIGH HEAT STEAM", and then remove the white plate from the main unit.4. Using pliers, slide the clamp holding the hose with the hose going into the heater plate.5. When the clamp has slipped far enough you can easily slide the hose off the pipe leading to the heater plate.6. Using a syringe (I used the ones boogers usually suck out of babies), I pumped water through the hose to clear it of any obstructions. I then pumped the water through the hole into which the reservoir below flows (the arrow in my drawing points to this hole). The water pumped through this hole should easily enter the pipe at the top (the pipe you freed in step 5).7. Follow steps 1-6 in reverse order to put everything back together. In less than ten minutes I was able to get my steamer working as I bought it. I hope I don't have to do this too often!
