These LED candles "glow" for several reasons1.) They're much brighter than older LED candles2.) They're even convenient to turn on and off with a remote control Use them as emergency lights without having to flip them and move the physical switch. You can place them on tall furniture or in a closed skylight and still turn them on and off remotely. 3.) The flicker effect is amazingly realistic without being mean. From just a few feet away, you won't be able to tell this flame from the real thing. The tip of the simulated flame flashes while the body of the candle provides a soft, continuous glow. Thus, the battery life is many hours. There are two things to note. First, batteries aren't included (with the exception of the included remote control), so get a pair of AA alkaline batteries with every candle you buy. Second, remember that the electronics in the candle are always on, so you can use the remote control. So conserve battery life by turning off the physical switch on the bottom if you're not going to be using it for a while.
