This device has proven to be excellent and was fairly easy to hook up in my application. First follow the quick start instructions! You need to set up this device before connecting to the internet and secondly you need to connect directly to a computer according to the instructions. The first thing you need to do is assign your computer a specific IP address, which is pretty easy for a beginner with lots of specific OS examples on YouTube. You can also find more information at the end of the quick start guide. In my case I needed to run an ethernet cable from my 2 wire about 75 feet into a steel building with a WA500G on the other end. In fact, I got a very strong wireless signal inside the building where previously there was only a weak wireless connection. In fact, the WA500G was already configured for the mode I needed (Access Point). I set up security (WEP in this case) and then found the "magic" setting. By default, 2wire is in dynamic IP mode (DCIP), which means it assigns an address to every device that connects to it. The WA500G ships in static mode, meaning it has a fixed address (number). Once I changed this to dynamic IP mode. Bingo! 2wire now sees the WA500G as just another device, assigns it an address and you're on your way with a new wireless access point (AP). I'm not a pro, this was my first experience with something like this and it lasted about 3 hours. Of course, there are some other things I won't mention here, but overall I'm happy with my $40 solution (AP + cable + shipping). Feel free to ask any questions about this particular setup and good luck.
