This slicer seems to have worked great for the first half dozen bagels I cut with it. A complete catastrophe followed. The blade will stop slicing the bagel until it has been crushed nearly a quarter the bagel's height. I've tried cleaning the blade, tried different cutting techniques, etc. Nothing solves the problem. So I cut the bagels again with a knife. That works great. Another thing that didn't impress me at all was the seller's apparent disinterest in my satisfaction with their product. I haven't heard a single word from them. I guess I know why My advice is to avoid this product as if it were a serious illness. You'll save your money, won't destroy any of your bagels, and avoid many common annoyances. Update: I tried a new technique this morning. I started by slicing about half an inch with a knife and then finished with a planer. For some reason this actually works without crushing the bagel. While it's a little annoying, the extra hassle doesn't bother me. The slicer actually does a good job with this usage.
