When using a live center on a lathe, the distance between the ends of a workpiece is often unfavorably reduced. This lively, long-nose hub gives you a little more room to work. For me it did not disappoint. I use a 7x16 LMS 5100 mini lathe that uses a short MT2 in the tailstock. I was glad I didn't have to trim the cone to get it working with my setup. Pros: - Quality feel, no loose parts or rattling. - Short Taper Morse 2 is perfect for my mini lathe. Does not slip, but is simply thrown out if necessary. Smooth bearings spin well. No grit or sticking.- 60 degree tip VERY sharp and finely honed.- "Inspection Log" included.- Well packaged in retail packaging. - Not sure about durability or longevity. Conclusion: For the price, you can't go wrong. Although Shars is made in China, it is well known and sells decent products. In some turning operations, having an extra half inch to work with makes a world of difference. (I've included a picture of my standard live center with a shorter nose for comparison.) Knurling, turning to the end, or threading the outer end is now a little easier.
