Slim Compact, HDMI out doesn't work with Linux

I understand that this device doesn't claim to be compatible with Linux, but I have several other similar devices and they all don't Problems support Linux. This tells me that this is either sub-standard or uses a fundamentally different standard than other devices. The USB 3.0 ports work perfectly and run at full speed.
