Upgrade from a previous Linksys G wireless router that was no longer offering the required range due to G data rate limitations F I recently bought a new Dell laptop with built in Wireless-N. First impressions were that the product was well packaged, containing only the power adapter, an extra power cord (if needed), the router, and the installation CD. Experienced Linksys router users will likely skip the installation CD and go straight to the router's configuration web page, which will be very familiar to those who have used Linksys routers in the past. I opted for manual configuration through the router's admin webpage. Setup was easy, and it was easy to apply wireless security settings as needed, too. Another nice feature of this router is the ability to turn the Guest Wireless feature on and off from the router's web page. This way you can create a second one (SSID and password) that is different from the main name and grant that access when guests visit you. Ideal if a guest brings an iPod/iPad or their own laptop and wants to surf the web. However, it's designed so that you don't have to reveal your primary SSID and password. You can open a separate guest account and limit the number of simultaneous users. Also, this feature can be toggled on and off, which will invalidate guest access (if you disable the feature after exiting). Very nice and avoids embarrassing situations where you don't want to reveal your primary SSID and password. There is a separate one that can be provided just for the guest if you need it. There are no LEDs or indicators on the router. It's an all-black chassis with a glossy plastic finish on the top and a matte black plastic finish on the bottom. There are 4 ports for wired computers or other devices. Plus an internet connection coming from your modem. The router is very reliable. Been running it for weeks or more and never had to shut it down or restart it. It just works. Such an upgrade from some previous Linksys routers back in the day that required a firmware update right out of the box to work properly. It just works. Wireless-N speed is also a welcome upgrade (in combination with the wireless-N card) in the device. Range and speed are definitely a notable improvement over Wireless-G. In addition, the device is backward compatible at its own discretion (via web settings) and can work with wireless B/G/A/N at the same time. It also has an automatic channel selection mode that keeps the router on the wireless channel to avoid interference. In general. very easy and a great buy for the price range. Not to mention the reliability of the product. I can definitely recommend this router in this price range.
